FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is naturopathic medicine?

Naturopathic doctors are trained in both conventional medicine and functional medicine, acupuncture, chiropractic medicine, homeopathy, nutrition, herbal medicine, psychology, behavioural and lifestyle counselling. Our goal is to get your body functioning well again, by filling deficiencies and  optimizing body systems. We use blood lab and functional lab tests (salivary, urine, stool, breath or skin samples), along with clinical physical exam and expertise to get to the root of why you are experiencing what you are experiencing, how you got there and what you can be doing about it in the short and long-term, both as an adjunct to conventional medicine or instead of the conventional approach.

Dr. Kaylee does not practice primary care and so encourages all her patients to have both a family doctor and a naturopathic doctor. She does have working relationships with family physicians and specialists in Toronto who are still accepting new patients, and are open and encouraging to the use of naturopathic medicine. how many visits will i need?

Typically patients need 3-4 visits to overcome one area of health or one health concern. Often patients will see Dr. Kaylee for more frequent visits in the first two years, and then see the frequency and length of visits diminish overtime.

It is Dr. Kaylee's goal to have all patients graduate to a point of only needing a bi-annual wellness assessment. These visits include doing your metabolic health screening questionnaire, a body-composition analysis, and an assessment by Dr. Kaylee to help you understand how well you are tracking with your health.

Do you provide direct billing?

Dr. Kaylee's at home clinic does offer direct billing, however, not all insurance companies allow for it. She uses Telus e-health claims system, and recommends you check out the list of insurance companies she can direct bill through this system on the Billing page, and if your insurance provider is listed, calling them to ask them the 4 questions listed on the Billing page, to see if your plan will allow for it.

You will always receive a itemized paid invoice available for recall in the CHARM patient portal, in .pdf form, that you can submit on your own to your provider, or, keep for your records.

can you help me if I am on medication?

Dr. Kaylee is well versed in pharmaceutical medicine and has her prescribing rights, as allowed by the College of Naturopathic Doctors of Ontario. She can support patients in better understanding the medication they are taking, giving treatment plans that work as an adjunct to her patients'' conventional treatment plan (including drugs and surgery) to improve quality of life, reducing adverse effects and support for improving your health so that you can approach your prescribing doctor about weaning off your medication.
